Tyler Austin finally will serve the suspension that has been looming since his altercation with the Red Sox’s Joe Kelly on April 11 — but it won’t be as long as feared.
The Yankees got their way Thursday, when a source told The Post Austin’s suspension had been reduced on appeal from five games to four. Austin will begin serving the ban Friday.
Austin has been a revelation at the back end of the Yankees lineup, providing power and average at the first-base position while starting for the injured Greg Bird. Despite going 0-for-3 with three strikeouts Thursday in a 4-3 win over the Twins, Austin has hit .290 this season with five home runs and 16 RBIs.
